Compassion Fatigue: Resources
Compassion fatigue is characterized by physical and emotional exhaustion and a change in the ability to feel empathy. While compassion is an important trait for those in helping professions, such work can take a toll on even the most dedicated individuals.
The IACUC acknowledges the challenges faced by our researchers, veterinarians, animal care staff, and others involved in animal care and research. Repeated exposure to animal illness, injury, euthanasia, or challenging situations can lead to compassion fatigue, impacting both personal well-being and professional effectiveness.
In addition to the required AALAS Learning Library Module (Compassion Fatigue), this webpage provides resources for more information on its signs, symptoms and tools for assessment and prevention.
