What is Cayuse?
Cayuse is a web-based system designed to manage animal research protocols and the protocol review process. In addition Cayuse manages vivarium operations (cage cards, census, billing, etc.). Cayuse was previously called e-Sirius so that name still appears in emails that are generated from the site.
Who can use Cayuse?
- Access to log into Cayuse is limited to PIs, PI delegated research staff, IACUC staff, IACUC Committee members, and DCM staff.
- New PIs should contact the IACUC office to initiate a new PI discussion/training session with the IACUC Administrator. Once the initial meeting has occurred and DCM orientation has been completed, the IACUC Administrator will activate the new PI account in Cayuse.
- PI can designate up to 2 personnel to obtain access to Cayuse for assistance with managing protocols, cage card requests and animal ordering. These personnel will be directly linked to the PI account. Additional accounts may be requested but will be approved only on a case by case basis.
- Note: Access to Cayuse cannot not be obtained without a GU net ID.
Can students login to Cayuse?
Students cannot log into Cayuse unless they are one of the 2 personnel specifically designated by the PI. Being listed as an approved animal user on a protocol and cayuse access are two different processes. To be an approved animal users you must follow the steps on the training page. Cayuse access is separate and is limited to designated users.
Will I be able to designate someone to help me to coordinate the submission and review of my protocols?
Yes. PIs can designate 2 people that can obtain access to Cayuse. These 2 personnel will be linked to the PI account and will be able to complete the following tasks in Cayuse;
- Draft New or Renewal protocols
- Draft Amendments
- Respond to reviewer comments
- Cage Card Requests
- Import/Export Requests
- Review Billing Records
- Order Animals
Note: Cayuse allows these designated personnel to draft items, however ONLY the PI can submit amendments and protocols.
I am unable to login to Cayuse—what do I do?
If you cannot login to the system, please contact the IACUC Office for assistance (202-687-1355).
