IACUC Training Information

Both the Georgetown University and Federal Regulations (USDA & PHS) require training and continuing education of all scientists, research technicians, animal care technicians, and all others involved with animal care and use. PHS Policy and the Animal Welfare Act Regulations require that all individuals working with animals be appropriately and sufficiently trained for the procedures that they will be performing. The IACUC is responsible for providing oversight of the training program for all personnel using animals. An animal user is not permitted to conduct animal research or order animals until all training requirements have been met and listed on an approved animal protocol. In addition a new or renewal animal research protocol cannot be approved until all animal handlers listed on the protocol have completed all training requirements. The IACUC Office confirms that all training requirements have been met before a protocol is approved or an animal user is approved to work with animals.
